How to maintain Wooden Serveware

We have been asked a lot about maintainence of wooden serveware and it is really not that hard, though woodware does require a little tlc from time to time.

  • After every use, wash with dishwashing liquid and water.
  • Dry each wooden item well before storing them away.
  • Periodically treat them with food-grade wood wax such as this one here.
  • If the surfaces gets rough or worn out, you can use sandpaper to file down the surface. Start with a medium to fine grit sandpaper to smoothen sharp cuts on chopping boards, wear & tear on cooking utensils or stubborns stains on plates, and finish off with extra fine grit sandpaper, before protecting with food-grade wood wax.
  • To disinfect wooden serveware that has been used for raw meat, you can wash it out with a solution made out of 50% water and 50% white vinegar.
  • You can refer to several videos online on the easy maintainence of woodware such as this one here.

Because wooden serveware have such beautiful wood grains on them, we personally display our plates in the open by using bamboo plate holders. We also keep our teak wood wooden utensil & wooden chopping board on our kitchen countertop, because, why not?
